Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stirred controversy in the West Bengal Assembly on Monday by indirectly targeting BJP state president Sukant Majumdar during a heated Question Hour session. Though Majumdar is not an MLA, the CM made sharp remarks in a veiled reference to him and offered what she called ‘special advice’—all without taking his name.
Tensions were already high as members of the ruling party and opposition clashed during the debate. Amid this, Mamata Banerjee's pointed comments sparked murmurs in the House and political circles. Observers say her indirect barbs were unmistakably aimed at Majumdar.
Responding to the remarks later, Sukant Majumdar defended himself publicly, stating, “The Chief Minister is trying to trap me forcefully. I am not accused of theft or corruption.” He dismissed the remarks as politically motivated and said he would not be intimidated by such statements.
The episode has added another chapter to the ongoing friction between the TMC and BJP, with both sides ramping up rhetoric as political temperatures rise in West Bengal.
